DH (dear husband) went to the vet today with Maxu while I was working. Lately, she has been sick a little too often on our carpets, has lost some weight and is no longer as obsessed with food as she used to be. I was getting worried, especially after the pretty terrible experience with Titi (who ended up dying three days after we found out about his tumor).
26,000 Yen of tests and drugs later, she has a very serious heart condition and "may die at any time". As in today, or three (or five) years later.
Her heart is enlarged and blocks the esophagus, hence the throwing ups and little appetite. And the 2 kg or so she lost since last check up last August (still on the bigger side with 5.4 kg or so).
She turned 15 this June, so that is not as if she did not live a full and busy life. She flew a number of miles/kilometers equivalent to about 1,5 times a flight around the world (3 times between Japan and Switzerland), lived in 6 different places (not counting 1-2 months at my parents place or the terrible
two-week stay at Narita quarantine office), lived with Titi and me for 13 years, with DH for 6 years, etc.
Our relationship was not always so good. She has had many health-related issues that influenced more or less greatly her moods. In fact, she is probably one of the moodiest cat I have ever met.
Now is probably the best time of her life, especially when she is sitting on the shelf next to my sofa and gets scratches from yours truly. Of course, she could do without the super energetic no-longer kittens. But nothing is perfect.
Let's have a nice thought for a pretty unique red-head lady cat and hope that she has many more moons to spend with us ...
